Meet the Leadership
Piotr Moncarz, Ph.D., P.E., SCPM, NAE President and CEO
Dr. Moncarz’ distinguished career spans over 30 years in leadership positions in engineering design, analysis, and engineering and management consulting – project failures and risk management. Since 1980 at Exponent Failure Analysis Associates; since 1989 a corporate officer who participated in taking the company public and building it to become the world‘s leading engineering and scientific consulting company. Dr. Moncarz has decades of experience in energy projects with international and domestic project development, plant restructuring ,and advisory roles in national energy policies in developed and emerging economies. Since 1987 he’s served as Consulting Faculty at the CEE Department at Stanford School of Engineering where he’s currently an Adjunct Professor.
Walter Kolbe, MSc., CEM CFO and Corporate Secretary
Mr. Kolbe has over 25 years’ experience in financing, management, construction and operation of major infrastructure projects. He was Founder and CEO of four technology start-up companies (one of which merged with a public company) with customers such as Amoco, Unocal, Conoco Phillips. Other companies with which he was associated appeared in Oil & Gas Journal and Civil Engineering. He also served as Deputy Manager at San Francisco’s Clean Water Program where he was responsible for financial control, operation and maintenance of $2B in infrastructure. As Regional Manager for Professional Services Group (Veolia), he managed some of the largest privatized public infrastructure projects in the United States. He has a M.Sc. in Environmental Management from the University of San Francisco, a B.A. from Notre Dame de Namur University, and is a Certified Energy Manager.
Paul Brophy, M.Sc.Chief Geologist
Mr. Brophy is considered the pre-eminent geothermal resource authority in the United States. Paul founded EGS, Inc. in 1995 and has been company President since that time. Prior to forming EGS, Mr. Brophy was a Senior Associate with Dames & Moore from 1990 until 1995 and a District Geologist for California Energy Company. Mr. Brophy earned his M.S. from the University of Leeds, England, and a B.S. from the University of London, England. He has served as the President and as a Vice President of the Geothermal Resources Council, and on the Board of Directors for the International Geothermal Association and the Geysers Geothermal Association. Mr. Brophy has over 35 years of experience in geologic and resource assessment services. He is a registered Professional Geologist and Certified Hydrogeologist with the State of California.
Louis Capuano Jr., Petroleum Engineer Chief, Drilling and Well Completion
Mr. Capuano is a two time former President of the Geothermal Resources Council, the premier global association for the geothermal energy industry. He is one of the most experienced and respected drilling and well completion experts in the world. Mr. Capuano has profound experience in geothermal development including founding and building his own company into a multi-level service provider, including drilling rigs, geothermal well cementing, mud logging, a drilling mud company, and an exploration geologic and geophysical consultant company. He is CEO of Capuano Engineering. He worked in New Mexico on the first Enhanced Geothermal System project in the United States. He also designed and supervised the drilling of the SAFOD well to drill to and penetrate the San Andreas Fault. He has consulted on, and supervised, drilling projects in all major geothermal fields throughout the world including 5 years in Japan.
Michael Danaher, J.D.Corporate Counsel
Mr. Danaher is GSL’s corporate counsel and a senior partner in the corporate and securities practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he has practiced for 25 years. His transactional work includes private financings, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate partnerships, both domestic and cross-border. He chairs the committee responsible for promoting innovation in the firm’s venture capital practice and also serves on the investment committee for the firm’s affiliated fund, the WS Investment Company. He received his J.D., from Stanford Law School, Order of the Coif and a B.A. from Yale University.
